About

The Anglesea Recreation & Sports Club (AR&SC) was formed in 1911 by a challenge from the lads of Anglesea to those of Aireys Inlet to rowing races. The club has run a rowing regatta on New Year's Day every year since then, in four boats which were purpose built in 1913 by Jas Edwards and Sons (at Princes Bridge in Melbourne). The boats are quite literally unique in the world. They have been maintained in beautiful condition, are registered on the National Maritime Registry.

Our regatta is operated from a boat shed on the Anglesea River bank that was built by our club in 1916 and which today houses a treasure trove of historically significant artefacts; including the four original boats, the many honour boards which record race results back to 1911, the WWI Honour Board of Members who served but did not return, as well as seven other vintage wooden boats.

A permanent fixture on the community calendar, the Anglesea Regatta is a true community event, and as always, is open to everyone; experienced rowers, first time rowers, local residents and visitors alike.

Registrations for the regatta start at 10:00am and knock out rowing races begin at 12:00pm, until approximately 4:00pm. Entry is $25 per rower including a Club bucket hat, tank top or t-shirt (depending on availability), or only $15 for Under 15 and Under 18 rowers. Race categories are:
